Off-spin all-rounder Saransh Jain received his maiden Test call-up on Tuesday as the BCCI announced India’s 15-member squad for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, beginning on August 15.

The squad also marks the return of veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who is back in the red-ball set-up for the first time since November 2025 after recovering from a tennis elbow injury. Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has also been named, although the BCCI said his participation will depend on fitness clearance following an injury sustained during the recent ODI series in England.

Saransh earned his maiden selection after an impressive India A tour of Sri Lanka, where he struck an unbeaten 70 and claimed six wickets in the second unofficial Test. The 24-year-old has also built a strong domestic record, scoring 2,223 runs at an average of 31.75 and taking 188 wickets in 54 first-class matches.

Washington Sundar was unavailable for selection for the opening Test as he continues to recover from a right hamstring strain that also ruled him out of the third ODI against England.

Led by Shubman Gill, India will first play a four-day practice match in Colombo from August 7 before opening the series at the Galle International Cricket Stadium from August 15 to 19. The second Test will be held at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo from August 23 to 27.

The series marks India’s first assignment of the current ICC World Test Championship cycle after their 2-0 home defeat to South Africa last November. India are currently fifth in the WTC standings, with Sri Lanka placed sixth.

India squad: Shubman Gill (captain), KL Rahul (vice-captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant (wicketkeeper), Sai Sudharsan, Dhruv Jurel (wicketkeeper), Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Manav Suthar, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar, Devdutt Padikkal and Saransh Jain.
