The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday ended its association with Dream11, days after the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025 got President Droupadi Murmu’s nod.
Speaking to a news agency, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said that the board will ensure it doesn’t indulge with such organisations in the future.
“BCCI and Dream11 are discontinuing their relationship after the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025, was passed. BCCI will ensure not to indulge with any such organisations in future,” Saikia said.
Dream11 was the title sponsor of the Indian national cricket team. With Asia Cup scheduled to start in just a fortnight, BCCI’s decision to terminate the contract with the organisation leaves team India without any sponsor.
The decision follows the passage of the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025. The bill that has now become a law after President Murmu’s nod, bans online money gaming services, advertisements, and financial transactions related to them, while encouraging e-sports and casual gaming.
Under the new law, there will be no punishment for those playing online money games and only the service providers, advertisers, promoters, and those who financially support such games will face the consequences.
It, however, promotes online social games, which are played without monetary stakes, for family and friendly interaction.
Among the major online gaming platforms impacted by the Online Gaming Bill 2025 are Dream 11, Mobile Premier League (MPL), My11Circle, WinZo, and PokerBazi.
Besides, several other similar apps like Howzat, SG11 Fantasy, Games24x7, the parent company of My11Circle and RummyCircle, Junglee Games and RummyCulture also face complete ban on their gaming activities involving monetary transactions.
