The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is learnt to have accepted skipper Virat Kohli’s request to allow wives and girlfriends of players (WAGs) to accompany them on foreign tours.

As per a report published in Times of India, WAGs will now be allowed to travel with the team on tours after the first 10 days and can stay for the remaining duration. The decision was taken by the Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA). Earlier, the Indian Cricket Board had maintained a strict no to WAGs during overseas tours.

CoA believes the presence of cricketers’ wives and girlfriends will bolster the players’ performance on long tours abroad. CoA had made the decision after meeting skipper Virat Kohli, coach Ravi Shastri and Rohit Sharma.

Earlier, Virat Kohli had put in a request to the BCCI to extend the stay of wives and girlfriends during the team’s tours abroad. Speaking to India Today on the same issue, Gautam Gambhir said, “The player’s opinion varies. Only an individual can say because the individual has to play a Test match. Some want the family to be there for the whole tour while others want little family time and they try to concentrate (on cricket).”
