If reports are to be believed, La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly working out a new contract for their star player Lionel Messi. The new contract will eradicate all doubts concerning the future of Messi-Barcelona partnership.

According to a Spanish sports daily Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are working a lifelong deal for Lionel Messi. The deal is being made keeping in mind that Messi could use the clause in his contract which allows him to leave the club, given that he informs Barca before May.

Earlier in the week Barcelona club President Josep Maria Bartomeu stated that the club is not thinking about losing the superstar to another club. He suggested that the club is assured of his loyalty.

Meanwhile, the current contract of Lionel Messi is set to expire in 2021 and Barca management is busy preparing a new contract for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.

The reports add that the new contract, if signed by Messi at Barcelona, will not need any extensions. Messi would then most likely remain at Barcelona since the deal is going to be a “contract for life”.

Meanwhile, a different set of reports by Mundo Deportivo have claimed that Messi would not leave Barca for another European club and may choose to feature in Major League Soccer or go back to his boyhood club, the Newell’s Old Boys in Argentina if he prefers not to retire with Barcelona.
