Young Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, 20, will be India’s flag-bearer at the opening ceremony of Asian Games 2018.

“Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra to be the flag bearer for the Indian contingent at Asian Games 2018,” news agency ANI tweeted on Friday.

Recently, the Haryana athlete had won the gold at the Sotteville Athletics meet in France, beating a competitive field which included 2012 London Olympics gold-medallist Keshorn Walcott.

Chopra’s throw of 85.17m put him way ahead of the field, including Moldova’s Andrian Mardare (81.48m) and Lithuania’s Edis Matusevicius (79.31m), who finished second and third respectively.

Earlier, Neeraj Chopra had equalled the national record of 82.23 m at the 2016 South Asian Games and the same year he scripted history by breaking the junior world record with a throw of 86.48 m at the Under-20 World Athletics Championships.
