In all praise for the three centre-backs — Laurent Koscielny, Shkodran Mustafi and Nacho Monreal – Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger on Sunday said that they did a remarkable job and played an important role in team’s 1-0 win against Burnley at Turf Moor.

“We were put under significant pressure at Turf Moor, especially from crosses, but our back three of Laurent Koscielny, Shkodran Mustafi and Nacho Monreal stood firm,” said Arsene Wenger told Arsenal.com.

“We kept a clean sheet and Burnley were really up for it. I give us a merit today because we didn’t concede a goal. Our defence worked well again and we were relentless in the second half. We kept our heads and in the end we got the penalty that we wanted. The first half was an even game but in the second half it was all us,” said Wenger, who had gone with a 3-4-3 formation in the match against the Clarets.

Alexis Sanchez struck a 92nd-minute penalty to ensure the Gunners beat the in-form Clarets 1-0 in a hard-fought Premier League tie.

“I thought the draw would have been a disappointment today, even if Burnley are a very good team. We were on a high after Tottenham and I think it was important to push on again to strengthen the belief and the ambition of the team,” said Wenger.
