The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has assured full support to Indian Super League (ISL) clubs, following reports that all 13 teams were considering taking the matter of the league’s current suspension to the Supreme Court.
The cloud of uncertainty around the ISL remains, with no confirmed start date, due to a deadlock over the Masters Right Agreement with FSDL, which has led some clubs to suspend their football operations.
“The AIFF has given assurance to the CEOs of 13 ISL clubs on August 7, 2025, during a meeting with all stakeholders in New Delhi, that the Federation will do everything as per the Constitution/legal advice to support the country’s top-tier league,” read a post on Indian Football’s official X handle.
On Thursday, AIFF president Kalyan Chaubey reiterated that the country’s top-flight league will take place this year but clarified that the national federation will not get involved in clubs’ internal matters, including salary and payment issues.
AIFF convened the club CEOs in New Delhi to address the ongoing situation. After the meeting, Chaubey confirmed the ISL’s scheduling for this year without revealing a detailed plan, and refrained from commenting on clubs suspending their first-team activities.
“The ISL will be held this year. There is no doubt about that, at the same time, it’s the club’s decision to pay their players or staff. We can’t intervene – that’s how all top leagues operate,” he said.
Chaubey also outlined the possibility of staging the Super Cup in mid to late September to give ISL sides much-needed competitive action amid the uncertainty.
“We are anticipating the Super Cup to take place in the second or third week of September. Some teams need six to eight weeks to complete their preparations and bring back players. In our next meeting, we’ll announce the kick-off date,” he added.
