After 28 years wait, Egypt are back on the World Cup stage. They are in tight group with Uruguay, host Russia, and Saudi Arabia. They will fancy their chances of progressing to the knockout phase.

The Uruguayans provide a stern test for Egypt in their first match of the tournament at the Ekaterinburg Arena.

The North Africans will look to make an impression in Russia and put up some decent performances. With Mohamed Salah facing race against time to be fit for their opener today, Coach Hector Cuper has a word of caution for his side. He said,  “Egypt are lucky to have one of the best players in the world in their ranks. Mohamed Salah is the Egyptian Messi, but we can’t just rely on him.”

So, it’s clear if Egypt have to do well, and sneak past a group that can go either way, other players will have to step up, even if Salah is declared fit.
