India’s infant mortality rate has recorded a fall, but infant care poses a challenge to first-time parents still.
New statistics show fall in India’s Infant Mortality Rate (IMR). The country’s IMR has fallen to 34 per 1,000 live births in 2016 from 37 per 1,000 live births in 2015, according to a statement.
The impressive decline is reported from all states, except Uttarakhand. In a country, where the majority of the population is poor and infant care is still a a big challenge to the poor and illiterate parents, the progress is a quite a remarkable achievement.
However, infant care remains a big challenge to new parents. While illiterate parents are mostly unaware of not only medical but also domestic care for infants, even the educated ones are at lost about baby care as there are many requirements for the newly born. Just a baby, yes, but has many needs. And the first few months are critical for the baby’s health. Proper feeding and health care of the baby is required. Changes in the baby’s growth are rapid and one has to help the baby adapt to the new open environment.
