Designer Rina Dhaka Showcases the Khadi & Ahimsa Silk through Fashion Show

India Runway Week

The summer edition of India Runway Week 2018, organised by Indian Federation for Fashion Development (IFFD), is here yet again to showcase some brilliant designs.

India Runway Week is usually held twice every year and this time it’s slated for 20-22 April and will be held at The Plaza, DLF Place, Saket in the Capital.

In this 10th edition, one can look forward to 10 new ace design labels such as Arkya by Ankita Yadav, Istuti and Vivek; Sidh by Udayan Dalmia, Sunidhi Goradia, Shefali Dhaka Sirohi, Twinkle Pupreja, Tripti Chandak, Oindrilla Das and Ashima S Couture; and Peeli Kothi by Ambica. The Head of Fashion, Kiran Kheva, India Runway Week, revealed that this year the event is expected to be much bigger and better.

Also, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Banka Silk and IFFD’s India Runway Week to benefit 40,000 plus weavers of Jharkhand and Bihar.

The MoU was signed by IFFD founder, Avinash Pathania, and founder of Banka Silk, Udyan Singh, to promote the weaver’s and artisan’s community and give their fabric a proper market across the country. Banka Silk is an organisation that is already working with weavers for the past three years.

Banka silk will showcase its collection named “Bahar”, in association with designer Poonam Dubey. The collection is inspired from foliage, flowers, birds and butterflies.

Balancing the tradition of the handloom weaves of Jharkhand through contemporary silhouettes and sensibilities, refreshing colours and hand-block prints the collection creates an influence that rejoices a mix of fine Indian craftsmanship and modern touch.

Avinash Pathania said, “This is one of the steps we are taking to support around 250 plus fashion designers pan India. They will benefit from this agreement, as Banka Silk will provide authentic handloom fabric at weavers price at their doorstep.”

 

 

Udyan Singh said, “Banka Silk came into existence to promote different clusters of weavers at different stages and to get them maximum remuneration for their work by being a direct channel between weavers and buyers.”

Gennex 2018

In a unique blend of glamour and glitter, laced with the modernity and tradition, Gennex India, founded by ace designer Neha Sarna and Big Boyz Toyz, will host a mega-show in the National Capital.

Popular fashion-designers in the country will descend on 24 April at Roseate House, Aerocity, to showcase some of their unique collections for this fall at Gennex 2018 fashion show.

Ace designers like Ruchika Hurria, Payal Sethi, Ritambhara Paliya, Rajdeep Ranawat, Purwa Patel and Aarzoo Khanna will showcase their beautiful outfits with their models on this glamorous night.

The presence of such prominent names from the fashion industry and gorgeous models is bound to set the stage on fire. Neha Ankit Sarna, the founder of Gennex India’s dream project Gennex 2018, believes it will be an evening to remember, just like last year.

In 2017, Big Boyz Toyz fashion label and merchandise was launched by Gennex India amid huge fanfare. Directed by Ketan Bhatia, Gennex 2017 featured the latest collection of Rajdeep Runaway, “Versailles”, inspired by the French chateau.

From France to India, Purva Patel collection showcased the rich weaving history of Gennex India. Ekat designs were displayed beautifully on gorgeous models. Harkiran Basra’s dreamy outfits from her collection “Soinu” were inspired by Gene Kelly and Audrey Hepburn.

Runway rising!

The 19th edition of Runway Rising recently ended amid a lot of buzz at The Ashok, Chanakyapuri. The exhibition showcased more than 130 designers from all over the country.

“The vision behind Runway Rising has always been to provide a platform for young designers to showcase their designs and collections for the elite shoppers of Delhi-NCR,” said the curator and founder, Ramola Bachchan at the event.

“Every edition of Runway Rising keeps getting better than the previous and this 19th edition was no different. The show met with a positive response and received strong visitor footfall.”

This edition displayed spring / summer collections from a wide range of designers and brands. Numerous stalls were set up that showcased astounding collection of festive wear, shoes, jewellery, skincare products, watches, handloom, handbags, accessories, western wear, home décor and chocolates.

The exhibition, which catered primarily to women, also featured a unique collection of men’s shoe brand Warewood ~ bespoke shoemakers showcasing the amazing collection of formal handmade shoes for men.

Just B Au Natural, a brand that offers completely free of synthetic fragrances, colour and engineered ingredients, participated for the first time and showcased a plethora of products like serums, moisturizers, toners, clay masks and massage oils.

Many established brands participated such as Balance by Rohit Bal, Shri Paramani Jewels, Love Generation, Lecoanet Hemant, The Pink Mirror, Rent A Closet, Inaayat by Khushboo, Suraj and Sanja, Toxic, Sanam Tamanna Dubai and Kylee by Ruchi Jain among others.

Fashion for a cause!

New Delhi Social Workers’ Association (NDSWA), in collaboration with the Indonesian Embassy and with the support of KHADI-KVIC, Ministry of Textiles, and Udit Raj, MP, promoted Khadi and Silk at a global level.

The show was celebrated on the occasion of Dr Ambedkar Jayanti at the Indonesian Embassy. An initiative taken under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana, Udit Raj has been working towards providing skill training and employment especially to the disabled designers.

The fashion event brought in differently-abled designers and the country’s leading designers like Charu Parashar, Diksha Khanna, Pallavi Singh, Rina Dhaka and Varun Bahl, who lent their full support besides participation and mentored the women to create contemporary and stunning designs and dresses.

Some of the guests present at the event were Union Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation Vijay Goel; Entrepreneur Maneesh Baheti; Sandeep Jajodia, Chairman and Managing director of Monnet Ispat and Energy; Wedding Planner Dimple Anand and Jewellery Designer Pooja Juneja.

Speaking on the occasion, Udit Raj said, “This is the time for elites and designers to outreach the villages to empower women in particular and I am happy there are a few designers like Charu Prashar, Varun Bahl and Rina Dhaka who have the heart to get involved in philanthropy and promote skill training in rural India. I have adopted three villages ~ Jaunti, Khampur and Salahpur Mazra ~ under the Saansad Aadarsh Gram Yojana.”

 

 

Gaurav Grover, president of NDSWA, said, “This association will give Khadi and Silk a platform to present India in the international market. Also that will encourage designers to work with this fabric.”

In his speech, Sidharto Suryodipuro, Ambassador of Indonesia to India, said, “Empowering women has always been a priority for us in Indonesia, as part of our efforts for gender equality and people’s welfare. We at the Embassy of Indonesia in New Delhi are very pleased to be part of this noble and exciting initiative. The artful work presented in this fashion show exhibits both the glory of Indian fabrics, as well as the strength of India’s social fabric and sense of solidarity. This is an inspiring project.”
