India begins power export to B’desh
New Delhi, 5 Oct: India today began power export to Bangladesh with the inauguration of two collaborative power projects, a step described by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as a “historic moment” in the partnership between the two countries. The projects ~ a transmission line for exporting 500 MW from West Bengal and a 1,320-MW thermal power project in Bangladesh ~ were inaugurated by Mr Singh and his counterpart Sheikh Hasina through video conferencing. sns (details on page 8)

Rahul could’ve used ‘some other words’
New Delhi, 5 OCT: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has said Rahul Gandhi could have used “some other words” to criticise the ordinance on convicted law makers. “You can say this that may be some other words could have been used but what he (Rahul) reflected was something all of us were feeling,” Mrs Dikshit said during a programme on India TV when she was asked about Rahul’s criticism of the Prime Minister and the Cabinet that the ordinance was “complete nonsense”. pti
Man, wife fight off crocodile
Patharpratima, 5 Oct: A fisherman had a narrow escape from the jaws of death, fighting off a crocodile in the Mridangabhanga river of Patharpratima early this morning. Sheikh Hasibul (33) was fishing with his wife in the river at Choto Banashyamnagar, when a crocodile suddenly attacked him. His wife tried her best to save husband but she couldn’t. The crocodile had its jaws clamped on the fisherman’s leg and was trying to drag him into the deep water. Hasibul struggling frantically, thrust his fingers into one of the crocodile’s eye, forcing it to release him. The injured fisherman was taken to Patharpratima hospital where he is now under treatment and his condition is stable, the doctors said. sns
