Amid strong support from Asian peers, domestic bourses closed Tuesday&’s trading session with sharp gains.

The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) ended 440 points higher at 28,303 and the Nifty at the National Stock Exchange (NSE) closed 134 points up at 8,744.

After opening at 28,012, the Sensex touched 28,478 mark on the positive side while it touched 28,011 mark on the negative side, in the intraday trade.

On Monday, the Sensex had closed 120 points higher at 27,903 and the Nifty had closed 35 points up at 8,607.

In the broader markets, BSE Midcap index gained 0.8 per cent while Smallcap index surged over 1 per cent.

All the BSE sectoral indices, except Telecom index, closed in the positive territory with Bankex index leading the gains, up by 1.5 per cent. Telecom index declined 1.2 per cent.

Top gainers in the Sensex-30 pack: Bajaj Auto (up 3.1 per cent), Asian Paints (up 3 per cent), Maruti Suzuki (up 2.9 per cent), Gail (up 2.7 per cent), and HDFC Bank (up 2.6 per cent).

Bharti Airtel was the only losers in the Sensex-30 pack, down by 3 per cent.

Meanwhile, the Rupee was trading 11 paise higher at 67.06 against the US Dollar.
