Wreckage of missing Sukhoi-30 found near Assam’s Tejpur, no info about pilots

The wreckage of the Sukhoi-30 jet with two Indian Air Force pilots that had gone missing on Tuesday has been found 60 km northwest of Tejpur. As per reports, there was no information about the fate of the pilots.

The search-cum-rescue operation for the fighter jet had to be stopped on Wednesday due to bad weather and could be resumed on Thursday.

An IAF C-130 aircraft with electro-optical payload, an Advanced Light Helicopter, and Chetak helicopters were looking for the missing jet. Four ground teams of IAF personnel, nine of the Indian Army and two of state administration, were deployed on different axis to comb the area.

The aircraft that was on a routine training mission lost radio and radar contact soon after taking flight from Tezpur Shalonibari Airstrip in Assam around 9:30 am on Tuesday.

The last contact was made at 11:30 am in Lakhimpur.

It went missing near Doulasang area of Arunachal Pradesh, bordering China. The Assam and Arunachal Pradesh governments have been alerted. The Indian Air Force has launched a search operation.
