Winter Session of Parliament likely to begin on stormy note today

The Winter Session of Parliament beginning Friday is likely to be stormy with the Opposition led by Congress determined to corner the Narendra Modi government on a host of issues even as the ruling BJP hopes to get key bills passed.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar said that the government was ready to discuss all issues raised by the Opposition as he requested all the MPs to work “full time” to dispose of the business.

A total of 25 Bills are listed in the Lok Sabha and 39 Bills are pending in the Rajya Sabha.

The most important business would be the Supplementary Demands for Grants, which is the first one after the implementation of GST; the 123rd Constitutional Amendment for setting up of National Commission for Backward Classes as a constitutional body; and the Bill against triple talaq.

However, the opposition is all set to attack the the government on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s allegations against Manmohan Singh, former Vice President Hamid Ansari and others, as also the disqualification from Rajya Sabha of veteran socialist leader Sharad Yadav and Ali

The session beginning on December 15 will continue till January 5. The 21-day session is scheduled to have 14 sittings of both Houses of Parliament.
