The government is gearing up to convene the much-anticipated Winter Session of Parliament between November 24 and December 19, insiders revealed today, promising a packed legislative agenda with a tentative schedule of 20 sittings. The session is expected to wrap up just ahead of Christmas Eve, aiming to deliver critical legislative business as the year draws to a close.

The final schedule will be confirmed after approval from the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs (CCPA), slated within the next fortnight. However, political circles are already abuzz with discussions on the key bills slated for scrutiny and passage.

Among the marquee legislations likely to dominate the floor are the Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2025, the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirtieth Amendment) Bill, 2025. The agenda also includes the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Bill, and other significant measures poised to reshape administrative and economic frameworks.

The upcoming session follows a turbulent Monsoon Session, which ended on August 21 with both Houses adjourned sine die amid relentless disruptions. Opposition protests over issues such as the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Bihar’s electoral rolls led to chaotic scenes including heated exchanges and torn documents as well as frequent adjournments. Despite these hurdles, the Lok Sabha clocked just 37 hours of business, falling well short of the 120-hour target.

Speaker Om Birla, reflecting on the disruptions, had urged restraint and decorum. “The sloganeering and planned disruptions inside the House and Parliament premises are not our tradition,” he had said. “We must uphold healthy traditions and strive for dignified discussions within the House.”

As Parliament prepares for the Winter Session, all eyes will be on whether lawmakers can rise above partisan battles to deliver on legislative promises and tackle pressing national issues. With a heavyweight bill list and ongoing political tensions, the upcoming session promises to be a crucible of democracy in action.
