Will stand with Centre on issue of nat interest: TMC’s Abhishek Banerjee on Nepal turmoil

Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee on Wednesday said his party and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee support the Centre’s decision with regard to the politicval turmoil in Nepal, adding that one wishes peace to prevail in the neighbouring country.

Speaking to reporters about the situation in Nepal, he said, “Our chief minister has said clearly yesterday that the situation that we have seen in Nepal, we always want peace there. We always want peace to prevail in our neighbouring countries. Now, since this is a Union subject, whatever decision the Union Government takes in the interest of the country, the party and our CM will support it.”

Abhishek, who was part of the Operation Sindoor delegations India sent abroad, said that when it comes to the issues of national interests, the TMC will fight “shoulder to shoulder with the Union Government.”

India is the immediate neighbour of Nepal and the two countries share historic people to people ties. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had expressed deep concerns over the violence during Gen Z protests, urging people to maintain peace.

Earlier in the day, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that her government is monitoring the situation in Nepal and stranded tourists will be brought back once the order is restored.

“I take the issue regarding the tourists stuck in Nepal seriously. I want to tell them to wait for a while till the situation becomes normal. We are monitoring the situation closely and will bring all of you back soon,” CM Banerjee said.
