CHENNAI, 21 Sept: The BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Mr Narendra Modi&’s scheduled rally in Tiruchirapalli (Trichy) on 26 September is targeted at youth voters and political analysts in the state feel that the Modi magic will work here too.
Sources say that through Mr Modi&’s visit, the BJP is trying to firm up pre-poll alliances with regional political players such as the AIADMK in Tamil Nadu. However, many observers say that the BJP&’s alliance with a major political party in Tamil Nadu is possible only post-poll.
“No major political party will support the BJP in the state pre-poll as it may be suicidal for them,” says an analyst.
The BJP has also invited superstar Rajinikanth to Mr Modi&’s Trichy rally. BJP president in Tamil Nadu, Mr Pon Radhakrishnan, has appealed to the actor to support the party in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. However, the superstar has not replied to the invitation yet. When asked as to any specific reasons for selecting Trichy as the venue for rally, Mr Radhakrishnan told The Statesman, Trichy is centrally located district in Tamil Nadu and is also a BJP stronghold. Activists and youths from Chennai, Kanyakumari and Coimbatore districts are expected to take part in the rally .
Though no programme is as yet scheduled in Chennai, Mr Modi is expected to touch base there and he may later proceed to Kerala.
