Panic gripped the villages of Lahra, Pathakpur, and Kadarwadi in the Soron police station area late Friday night when a wild jackal attacked people during a Ramleela program.
The incident occurred around 10 PM, during the popular religious play, when a jackal suddenly entered the venue and began attacking attendees.
A total of eight people were injured in the attack, causing chaos and fear among the crowd as people ran for safety. All injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment, officials confirmed on Saturday.
Among the injured are Sukhpal, son of 50-year-old Ajit; Sukhpal’s wife Ratan Kumari from Pathakpur; 9-year-old Rakesh; 16-year-old Ankit from Lahra; Radheshyam; 15-year-old Ajit from Kadarwadi; and 40-year-old Rakesh. Most of the injured from Lahra were admitted to the Soron Community Health Centre (CHC).
In addition to attacking people, the jackal also targeted a buffalo and a cow, spreading further fear among the villagers.
Soron police, led by Station Officer Jagdish Singh, arrived at the scene to restore order. The Forest Department was immediately notified and has since launched a search operation to locate and capture the animal.
Residents remain fearful, and authorities have urged them to stay indoors at night until the jackal is found. The Forest Department continues its efforts to track the wild animal and prevent further incidents.
