Days ahead of the Assembly elections, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Thursday shared a purported video of former leader Humayun Kabir, alleging that the BJP offered him Rs 1,000 crore to mislead the minority community.

In a social media post on X, the TMC alleged that the “EXPLOSIVE sting operation video” exposes the BJP’s “dirty conspiracy against Bengal.”

“In the video, Humayun Kabir openly admits that BJP PAID him ₹1,000 crore to mislead the minority community, and claims that senior BJP leaders like Himanta Biswa Sarma, Mohan Yadav, and even the PMO were involved in this CONSPIRACY,” the TMC wrote on X.

The Statesman could not independently vouch for the authenticity of the purported video, in which Humayun Kabir is heard saying that he wants to remove West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at any cost and that BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has promised him Rs 1,000 crore.

“I told Suvendu Adhikari that I need money — to consolidate Muslims and secure their votes in the elections… the entire target would be ₹1,000 crore,” he is heard saying in the video in Hindi.

Humayun Kabir, who had given a call for the construction of the Babri Mosque in Murshidabad, was suspended from the party last year. He subsequently quit the TMC and floated his own party – Aam Aadmi Unnayan Party (AJUP).

Kabir’s AJUP is contesting the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026 in an alliance with Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM.

In the “sting” video, Kabir also revealed his strategy to defeat Mamata Banerjee.

“Hindus trust Mamata Banerjee, but they know very well that if Muslims — who vote 90–100 per cent for her — shift away, she will not return to power, and then they will be left with only one option: the BJP,” he said.

The AJUP chief further claims in the purported video that BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari told him to connect with the central leadership. “Suvendu Adhikari said that on the 22nd, he will go to Delhi and get me connected with the central leadership… Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav is also connected with me… later, the PMO also brought the Assam CM on board,” he says.

Kabir also claims in the video that the BJP has offered him the deputy CM’s post if his party could cut through TMC’s Muslim votes and secure 70-80 seats. “The BJP has said that if 70–80 seats are secured, then you will directly be given the post of Deputy Chief Minister.”
