A 86.90 per cent voter turnout has been registered for re-polling at 14 of 15 polling booths under two Assembly constituencies in West Bengal till 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 2.
As per the official data shared by the Election Commission, 86.11 per cent voter turnout was registered till 5 p.m. in Magrahat Paschim, while it stands at 87.60% in Diamond Harbour.
Voting for the second phase of 2026 Assembly elections in West Bengal, covering 142 Assembly segments in the state, was held on April 29. However, the poll body later ordered repolling across 11 polling stations in Magrahat Paschim along with four in Diamond Harbour after complaints of irregularities.
Voting for all the 15 polling stations began at 7 a.m. on Saturday and continued till 6 p.m.
Earlier in the day, voting at a polling booth under Diamond Harbour seat was disrupted due to a technical fault in the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM). The fault was detected at booth number 243 in Ward number 11 of the Raynagar area under Diamond Harbour Assembly constituency.
It is being said that the EVM malfunction was detected at around 8 a.m. Election Commission officials later rushed to the booth after receiving information about the glitch, while efforts were made to replace the defective EVM and restore normal polling operations at the earliest.
Voting for the high-stakes West Bengal Assembly elections 2026 was conducted across two phases on April 23 and April 29. In the first phase, polling was held in 152 Assembly constituencies, followed by the remaining 142 Assembly constituencies in the second phase.
After the completion of the re-polling at 15 polling booths under two Assembly constituencies, the counting of votes will be done on May 4.
