Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) national president and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has made it clear that her party is neither a part of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) nor associated with the opposition INDIA bloc led by the Congress.
Mayawati’s statement came on Tuesday in response to a media report suggesting that the BSP was moving closer to the BJP.
Reacting sharply, the BSP chief took to the social media platform X to issue a strong clarification, stating that their party continues to follow an independent political path.
“The Bahujan Samaj Party is not with the BJP, Congress, or any other political alliance. Our party has always worked with an independent ideology based on Dr B R Ambedkar’s principle of ‘Sarvajan Hitay, Sarvajan Sukhay’ (for the welfare and happiness of all),” Mayawati said.
She also criticised sections of the media, accusing certain journalists and news channels of having a biased mindset against Dalits, Adivasis, and backward communities. According to her, these media outlets repeatedly attempt to tarnish the image of the BSP by spreading false narratives and misleading reports, ultimately trying to harm the party’s political prospects.
Mayawati’s remarks are seen as a firm reiteration of the BSP’s position ahead of upcoming political developments, indicating that the party will continue to maintain its distance from both national alliances while focusing on its core voter base and ideologies.
