One more body was recovered from the landslide site in Kerala’s Wayanad, taking the total numbers of persons killed in the disaster to four, Kerala Minister AP Anilkumar said.

Speaking to mediapersons, Anilkumar said that the body was recovered from zone 1 of the search area in the morning.

“Searches will be carried out in zone 1 and 2 of the area. Will be focusing search operations near the river also,” PTI quoted the state minister as saying.

Notably, the landslide occurred on July 7 at the site of the Anakkompoyil-Meppadi tunnel project that will connect Wayanad and Kozhikode districts.

As of now, four persons remain missing.

On Wednesday, Chief Minister VD Satheesan said that search operations will be given priority. He added that among the 10 persons injured in the incident, three were discharged, four were still hospitalised but stable and three others were in the ICU of whom two were critical.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday spoke to Satheesan and assured full support from the central government for the ongoing rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts while calling for a high-level probe into the tragedy.

The accident took place after a massive portion of a hill of excavated mud collapsed, trapping workers under tonnes of debris.
