A top college in Patna is in the news for a video showing girls in scanty-clothing dancing to vulgar songs at the institution’s Saraswati Puja celebrations.

The incident happened on Monday, 22 January, inside the premises of Bihar National (BN) College in the state capital.

According to the TOI, the College administration says that it was fooled by hostellers who organised the event.

An FIR was lodged by the principal Raj Kishore Prasad on Tuesday against the hostel’s puja committee. Prasad told the media that he was unaware of the dance till the video went viral. He said that he was told by the students that they were organising a ‘Devi jagran’.

“I called on the Proctor and vice-chancellor as soon as I came to know about it and explained them about the incident,” he said.

He added that upon questioning, the hostellers denied organising any such event.

Patna University (PU) vice-chancellor Rash Bihari Prasad Singh, too, expressed shock over the incident. He told the media that the students fooled him when he inquired about a stage on the day of the Saraswati puja.

“They will bear the consequences for what they have done,” he was quoted as saying.

Reacting to the incident, Patna DM Kumar Ravi said that a probe will be conducted.

The furious principal said that the administration feels cheated by the students and will “not go soft on them”. He added that a five-member committee to probe into the incident and compile a report within three days.
