Vice President CP Radhakrishnan will be on a two-day visit to the Republic of Seychelles from October 26 to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Patrick Herminie, the President-elect of Seychelles.
The visit is at the invitation of the Government of Seychelles and will be undertaken on behalf of the Government of India, a government release said.
During his visit, the Vice President will convey India’s warm felicitations to President-elect Dr Herminie and reaffirm the close, longstanding, and time-tested relationship between the two nations. The event symbolizes the deepening diplomatic and strategic ties that have flourished over the years.
Seychelles holds a special place in India’s foreign policy framework, particularly under India’s vision MAHASAGAR, which emphasizes maritime cooperation and fostering partnerships across the Indian Ocean region. The islands are key partners in India’s commitment to strengthening solidarity among global south countries.
“The Republic of Seychelles is an important partner in India’s vision to enhance regional connectivity and collective development. This visit by our Vice President reinforces our dedication to nurturing and expanding our relationship,” Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.
Vice President Radhakrishnan’s presence at the ceremony underscores India’s resolve to support democratic transitions and deepen cooperation with Seychelles across multiple domains, including maritime security, trade, and cultural exchange.
The visit is expected to set the tone for further collaboration, strengthening ties that are vital for both countries’ shared goals of peace, prosperity, and sustainable development in the Indian Ocean region.
