Vice-President CP Radhakrishnan Friday assumed charge as Chairman, Rajya Sabha, after being administered the oath of office by President Droupadi Murmu at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
“As I assume the charge as Chairman, Rajya Sabha, I am committed to upholding the dignity and integrity of this esteemed institution,” Radhakrishnan said in a statement.
He emphasized the importance of constructive debate and discussion in the Upper House, ensuring that every voice is heard and every opinion is valued.
Upon arrival at the Parliament House Complex, Radhakrishnan was welcomed by Union ministers, Deputy Chairman Harivansh, and Secretary-General PC Mody. He offered floral tributes to the statues of eminent national leaders and freedom fighters at Prerna Sthal, emphasizing their invaluable contributions to the freedom struggle and progress of the nation.
Radhakrishnan also paid floral tributes to the memorials of Mahatma Gandhi, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, and Chaudhary Charan Singh, paying homage to their contributions to the nation.
The Vice-President also planted a sapling in the Parliament House Complex to mark his first day in office, symbolizing his commitment to a greener future. He formally assumed charge as Chairman, Rajya Sabha, entering the main Parliament House Building through Shardul Dwar.
Floor leaders of various political parties called on Radhakrishnan, congratulating him on his new role. Prominent leaders, including Kiren Rijiju, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs; Harivansh, Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha, Arjun Ram Meghwal, MoS for Parliamentary Affairs and Law & Justice; and L Murugan, MoS for Information & Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, were present on the occasion.
As Chairman, Rajya Sabha, Radhakrishnan is expected to play a crucial role in maintaining the dignity and decorum of the Upper House, ensuring productive debates and discussions.
