Union minister Kiren Rijiju on Thursday hit out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his ‘vote theft’ charges against the Election Commission, accusing the Gandhi scion of not respecting the Constitution.

Rijiju’s remarks come after the Supreme Court’s comment on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Bihar which justified the poll panel’s revision of electoral rolls and acknowledged that Aadhaar cards are not conclusive proof of citizenship.

Talking to reporters, Rijiju expressed skepticism about Gandhi’s claims, stating, “I do not have any medicine that will help Rahul Gandhi improve. He should come to his senses after the Supreme Court’s comment.”

The minister also urged other Congress leaders to guide Gandhi, saying, “There are some smart people in Congress, too, not all of them are like Rahul Gandhi. They should come together and give some wisdom to Rahul.”

The development is part of an ongoing row between the Congress and the Election Commission of India (ECI), with Gandhi alleging vote theft and other irregularities in the Bihar SIR exercise.

Rijiju also dismissed Gandhi’s actions as “drama,” emphasizing that the EC’s work is to remove the names of dead people and add new voters to the electoral rolls.

The Supreme Court’s recent comments on Gandhi’s claims have sparked further controversy, with Rijiju hoping that Gandhi will mend his ways after being “rebuked” by the court for making “unsubstantiated” claims. The dispute highlights the ongoing tensions between the ruling party and the opposition, with both sides engaging in a war of words over electoral processes and democratic institutions.
