Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said Swami Vivekananda’s stirring Chicago speech on universal brotherhood and harmony back in 1893 demonstrated the “strength of India’s rich culture” and the “power of universal brotherhood”.

In a tweet on the anniversary of the historic speech, Modi said: “On this day in 1893, Swami Vivekananda delivered his historic speech in Chicago and won many hearts and minds.”

“Swami Vivekananda&’s speech in Chicago demonstrated the strength of India’s rich culture and the power of universal brotherhood and harmony,” he said in another tweet.

Swami Vivekananda represented India at the Parliament of the World&’s Religions in Chicago. Held from September 11 to 27, 1893, delegates from all over the world joined the Parliament.

Swami Vivekananda addressed those gathered as ‘Sisters and Brothers of America’, for which he received a standing ovation.
