An audio clip allegedly implicating prominent CPI-M leaders has sparked a controversy in Kerala and it has put the left party in a spot.
The audio clip, alleged to be that of DYFI Thrissur district secretary Sarath Prasad, implicates prominent CPI-M leaders in Thrissur and accuses them of amassing huge wealth after attaining a certain level in the party.
The voice clip that went viral on social media platforms and news channels mentioned the names of Kerala Bank vice-president M K Kannan and Kunnamkulam MLA A C Moideen.
In the clip, a voice – allegedly that of Sarath – said that Kannan, who sold peanuts in Thrissur, became a crorepati while Moideen has dealings with the elite class in society.
After the leaking of the voice clip, CPI-M district secretary K V Abdul Khader has sought an explanation from Sarath.
Responding to the allegations and the leak of the audio clip, Khader said all CPI-M leaders were transparent in their political careers.
Kannan and Moideen had previously been investigated by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the Karuvannur Service Cooperative Bank case, but no wrongdoing was found, he said.
Sarath said that he made the statements during a friendly chat around five years ago and has refuted the allegations.
BJP leader V Muraleedharan said the clip confirms long-held allegations against party officials.
