Newly-elected leader of the Gujarat BJP&’s legislature party, Vijay Rupani was on Sunday sworn in as the new Chief Minister of the state following the abrupt ouster of Anandiben Patel.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) bigwigs including party chief Amit Shah, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari among others were present at the function that took place at the Mahatma Mandir in state capital Gandhinagar.

Rupani had on Saturday called on Governor OP Kohli and staked claim to form government in the state.

Earlier, Rupani submitted his resignation as the state BJP president to national party president Amit Shah following his election as the leader of the party’s legislative wing.

The first woman Chief Minister of Gujarat Anandiben Patel had on Monday announced her resignation through a Facebook post.
