The government on Tuesday, June 6, clarified that the motor insurance policies remain valid for vehicles using E20 fuel.
This comes after a few users on social media claimed that the use of E20 fuel can lead to the rejection of vehicle insurance claims. In a post on X, the Fack Check unit of the Press Information Bureau (PIB) debunked such claims and termed them “fake”.
“Some social media posts are claiming that using E20 fuel could lead to rejection of vehicle insurance claims… This claim is #FAKE… Motor insurance policies remain valid with the use of E20 fuel. Always verify such claims through official sources before sharing or acting on them,” read the post.

Earlier, social media posts suggested that people could face difficulties in securing insurance coverage or claim settlements if were using E20 fuel.
However, the viral claim has been rejected by the government as PIB states that there is no impact on the validity of motor insurance policies due to the use of E20 fuel.
Further, it is advised people to verify such information through official sources, besides appealing public to help curb the spread of misinformation by reporting suspicious or misleading content.
Recently, a report by KPMG in India stated that the ethanol blending programme has achieved significant scale in the country, with E20 fuel now operationalised nationwide.
