The Annakut festival was celebrated with great enthusiasm at the Annapurna Temple here on Wednesday as devotees from across the country thronged the shrine to participate in the festivity.
On the final day of the five-day Golden Idol Darshan, the temple’s court was lavishly decorated with 511 quintals of offerings prepared from raw and cooked foods.A
Brahmins performed special aarti and puja, and 56 offerings were made to the Goddess. The centre of attraction for devotees were the images of ‘Maa Annapurna’ and ‘Jai Shri Ram’ decorated with laddus.
It is believed that Lord Shiva begged alms from Mata Annapurna for the sustenance of Kashi. Millions of devotees partook of the offerings on this auspicious occasion.
Mahant Shankarpuri said that with the Annakut darshan, the devotees’ food stores never run dry. Temple manager Kashi Mishra said that during these five days, an unparalleled flow of devotion flowed. Millions of devotees from various parts of the country came to visit Mata Annapurna.
