The video of a Sikh police officer protecting a Muslim youth from an irate mob, comprising Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad members, in Uttarakhand’s Ramnagar is being widely shared on social media.

The incident has been reported from Girija temple, a famous shrine situated around 14-15 km from Ramnagar. In the video, which was shot on Tuesday, officer Gagandeep Singh can be seen shielding the youth from a group of men, who alleged that the youth was found with a Hindu girl near the temple.

Another police officer can also be seen trying to keep the irate mob at bay, while the angry crowd can be heard asking for the ID of the Muslim youth during the video.

Upon realising that Gagandeep will not allow them to attack the Muslim youth, the mob can be seen chanting anti-police slogans.

As per media reports, the incident occurred after the mob discovered the couple near the temple and proceeded to assault the Muslim youth. However, the police was alerted about the ruckus and officer Gagandeep Singh reached the spot to control the situation, in the melee, he got hold of the youth and embraced him in a bid to save him from physical harm.

As per The Quint news report, an officer from Ramnagar police station while confirming the incident said that they have contacted the parents of the couple and handed them over to them.
