The Uttarakhand Police succeeded in bringing back wanted fugitive Jagdish Punehta from United Arab Emirates (UAE) with the help of CBI and Interpol after more than six months of hard work with the help from International Police.
Punetha, wanted in several cases of cheating and criminal conspiracies, had been at large for more than four years and a Red Corner notice was issued against him in May this year.
The state Home Department informed on Friday that Punetha was arrested from the UAE on Thursday with the help of the CBI and the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. A state government statement said, “Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) successfully coordinated in bringing back the fugitive Jagdish Punetha from the UAE on 13 November 2025.”
Significantly, a red-corner notice was issued against him by the international police on May 06, 2025 following a request from the Uttarakhand Police after Punehta remained untraceable in a case of massive financial cheating and forgery registered in Pithoragarh.
The Dhami government statement further read: “Red corner notice subject Jagdish Punetha was wanted by the Uttarakhand Police in FIR 239/2021, registered against him at Pithoragarh Police Station on allegations of cheating and criminal conspiracy. However, fled from India to UAE, he was traced and apprehended following coordinated efforts between the CBI and UAE authorities.”
After the publication of the red corner notice against Jagdish Punetha by the Interpol, a team of the Uttarakhand Police travelled to the UAE to bring him back and returned to New Delhi.
