In its ten toes down move to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s suggestions, the Uttarakhand government has identified 14 special sites to develop spiritual economic zones in different districts.
The sites, located mostly close to well-known religious centres in the state, were chosen with a view to fulfill the wish of PM Modi to bring up Uttarakhand as global spiritual capital.
The government has selected the 14 locations from different districts of the state to develop as all inclusive spiritual economic zones as conceptualised by the prime minister during his Uttarakhand visit a few days ago. On the 25th anniversary of the state on November 9, he had asked the Pushkar Singh Dhami government to hammer out an action plan to develop spiritual economic zones across the state to transform Uttarakhand into a global spiritual capital.
Modi had said that the Dhami government must develop villages along Nepal and China border as international tourist destinations besides developing a well facilitated tourist site in every legislative assembly constituency of the state.
Sharing the information, Uttarakhand Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj said, “The sites have been listed and deliberations were held with the chief minister and senior government officials on the next course of action.”
Maharaj, though did not name the selected sites for spiritual economic zones, he said these tourist destinations that have all facilities for international tourists at one location will prove a game changer for financial well-being of the local public at respective places.
It’s notable that the concept of spiritual economic zones envisages a tourist place located at places close to renowned religious places in the hills and other parts of the state will all need infrastructural facilities for the tourists. These include facilities like yoga centres, ayurvedic wellness centres, availability of homestays and other accommodations, small markets, and other needs of tourists as visualised in the action plans.
