Uttarakhand has become the 16th state in the country to be bestowed with ‘President’s Police Colour’ for distinguished policing. The award is the highest honour presented to a state’s police force for exceptional service, discipline, and professionalism by the President of India after a rigorous evaluation process.

The Uttarakhand Police have been conferred the country’s most prestigious “President’s Police Colour”, also known as “Nishaan”, for exemplary performance as per the set standards of the Central government. The information was shared by Director General of Police (DGP) Deepam Seth when he called on the state chief minister on Thursday.

Expressing happiness over the honour to the state police, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami termed it a “golden chapter” in the state’s history. “This moment is not a mere achievement but a living testament to Uttarakhand’s pride, tradition and unwavering spirit of service. This honour has placed the Uttarakhand Police among select police forces in the country that have received highest national recognition for their distinguished and exemplary service.”

He said that the recognition not only enhanced the prestige of the police force but also elevated Uttarakhand’s stature at the national level.

It’s notable that the President’s Police Colour award is not just a decoration for any state police but a recognition of years of bravery, discipline, outstanding service, professional excellence, and dedication to the nation. It’s awarded only after a rigorous and multi-layered evaluation process assessing all aspects of policing including law and order, crime control, internal security, disaster management, public safety and technological innovation.

“This honour turns into a permanent symbol of pride, identity and tradition when inscribed on the police flag and uniform of the policemen. It’s a source of inspiration and responsibility for every police personnel in the country” said Dhami as he applauded the achievements of Uttarakhand Police with better utilisation of technology under tiring conditions and harsh topography.

He also appreciated the performance of the Uttarakhand Police in disaster management, particularly during the Kedarnath disaster of 2013 and other natural calamities thereafter.
Dhami said that the state police demonstrated exceptional courage, prompt response and human sensitivity in saving thousands of lives.

He added that in areas such as women’s safety, cybercrime control, tourism security, and community policing, the Uttarakhand Police have developed a robust and sensitive policing model as an inspiration for other states as well.

DGP Deepam Seth described the achievement as a “golden chapter” in the history of Uttarakhand Police. “The honor is a result of the dedication, courage and sense of duty of every officer and personnel along with the sacrifice, patience and support of their families. The achievement will inspire the force to set new benchmarks of excellence in the future.”
