The Shaheed Chandra Shekhar Azad Bird Sanctuary in Unnao, a prominent Ramsar site along the Kanpur highway, is set to unveil a first-of-its-kind attraction as an advanced AR–VR jungle dome nears completion.
The UP Eco-Tourism Development Board is rapidly developing multiple facilities worth approximately ₹2.81 crore, aimed at creating a richer and more immersive experience for tourists, wildlife enthusiasts, and school groups.
Located about 43 km from Lucknow, the sanctuary attracts birdwatchers, families, and weekend travellers seeking serene natural surroundings. Each winter, the wetland hosts a diverse range of local and migratory birds, making it one of the region’s most reliable spots for nature viewing.
Along with the AR–VR dome, the new amenities include a reception and ticketing area, food and ODOP kiosks, landscaping, plantation, lighting, and improved signage.
The AR–VR dome will allow visitors to explore dawn forests, observe nocturnal movement, and experience deep-jungle perspectives that are rarely visible during regular hours. The dome features 360-degree projection, with visuals displayed both above and below the seating line, offering a fully immersive environment.
To build ecological awareness among young learners, curated educational tours have already begun for schoolchildren from Lucknow. These visits are being organised under an MoU with EaseMyTrip, helping the sanctuary strengthen its connect with younger audiences.
Explaining the initiative, UP Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh said on Wednesday, “The AR–VR dome is not just a new attraction; it is a statement of intent. Uttar Pradesh is building eco-tourism that can stand anywhere in the world.
When visitors, especially children, see a forest come alive around them, they form a bond with nature that lasts. This is how we protect habitats and create the next generation of conservation-minded travellers.”
He added that Uttar Pradesh’s natural richness draws large numbers of nature lovers each year, and the state remains committed to ensuring that every visitor returns with a memorable and meaningful experience.
