Lucknow, 31 July: Tension gripped areas of the old city when two groups of the same sect allegedly indulged in arson and resorted to brick-batting during a religious procession in Bazar Khala. “The incident took place this morning when the procession of 21st Ramzan with 25,000 people was being taken out in old city by the Shia community”, IG (Law and Order) R K Vishwakarma said. The situation took an ugly turn when some people threw stones, leading to stone-pelting and arsoning in which a shop was set afire and eight vehicles, including two trucks, were damaged by the angry mob, he said. A shop was also looted by the mob in the area, the police official said.
Later, police resorted to lathicharge to control the situation, Vishwakarma said, adding that no one suffered major injuries in the incident.     pti
