In a major push to strengthen governance and prepare the workforce for the future, the Uttar Pradesh government will soon roll out a statewide artificial intelligence (AI) training initiative.
The programme aims to equip government officials, students, and educators with advanced digital skills tailored to the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
The drive will span multiple sectors, covering officials from the Urban Local Bodies, Social Welfare, Women and Child Development, Divyangjan Empowerment, and Food and Civil Supplies departments. A similar orientation session was recently conducted inside the UP Legislative Assembly—marking the first such AI-focused workshop for lawmakers in the state’s history.
Special Secretary in the IT Department, Neha Jain, revealed here on Tuesday that dedicated training sessions are planned for district magistrates and other senior administrative cadres. On the education front, the programme will be customised for ITI students and instructors, government school pupils, technical and non-technical learners, and faculty members from schools and colleges.
“When we began, our focus was on general IT training across different groups,” Jain explained. “But as AI integrates more deeply into the technology ecosystem, it’s clear that we need a specialised, future-ready approach. AI is evolving at breakneck speed—what revolved around large language models last year is now shifting towards agentic AI and multimodal systems.”
Given the size and diversity of Uttar Pradesh, Jain stressed that a one-size-fits-all curriculum would not work. Instead, audience-specific learning paths will be developed in collaboration with leading technology giants, including Microsoft, HCL, and Intel. These partners will help design structured modules that cater to the distinct needs of governance, education, and skill development.
In the assembly’s inaugural AI workshop for legislators on Sunday last, professors from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) introduced lawmakers to practical AI applications, demonstrating tools that can improve policy analysis, data interpretation, and public communication.
Officials say this is just the first step in building a digitally empowered UP, where both public servants and citizens are prepared to thrive in an AI-driven era.
