Electricity demand in Uttar Pradesh has surged to levels comparable to or even higher than in May and June. Officials say Uttar Pradesh is grappling with unusually high temperatures as October begins, pushing electricity demand closer to peak summer levels.

According to officials here on Friday, electricity demand in the state has remained around 30,000 MW, often surpassing peaks seen in May and June.

State Load Dispatch Center (SLDC) data shows that peak power demand has consistently remained above 29,000 MW since September 22nd, reaching 30,255 MW on September 25th.

An official of the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) said that the intense heat, the sudden withdrawal of monsoon and low rainfall in many districts have increased the demand for electricity for agriculture, especially tube wells.

The official further said, “The scorching sun and persistent heat are posing new challenges for the state’s power companies. Despite record demand, all power needs are being met without load shedding”.

“Instructions have been issued to employees to ensure uninterrupted supply during the festivals,” the official said.

According to the data, the maximum monthly demand was 27,037 MW in April, 29,873 MW in May, 31,486 MW in June, 30,818 MW in July and 30,292 MW in August.
