In the presence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, a historic agreement was signed between the Uttar Pradesh government and the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) UK at his official residence here on Tuesday.
Under this, the “Chevening-Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Uttar Pradesh State Government Scholarship Scheme” has been started, under which every year, five talented students of the state will be given scholarships for master’s degree in prestigious universities of the United Kingdom.
It is noteworthy that the UP government under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is working to get talented students recognized not only at the national level but also at the international level. On this occasion, the Chief Minister said that this scholarship scheme will become a powerful medium to give a new direction to the education system of the state and prepare the youth for the “Global Leadership Role”.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the objective of this scheme is to give an opportunity to meritorious students to achieve excellence in education, research, and leadership at the international level. This scheme will run for three years (2025-26, 2026-27, and 2027-28) from the academic session 2025-26. After this, the scheme will be renewed from 2028-29.
British High Commissioner to India, Lindy Cameron, while signing the MoU in Lucknow in front of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, said that it is a matter of great pleasure to come to Lucknow and sign this agreement.
Under this new Chevening Scholarship, five students every year will get the opportunity to study in the UK on full scholarship for the next three years. This is a symbol of growing relations between the United Kingdom and India.
Recently, during the UK visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Trade Agreement and Vision 35 have been signed by the Prime Ministers of both the countries, which will open great opportunities for education as well as business. This partnership will greatly benefit the students of India, and especially those in Uttar Pradesh, on the global platform.
This scheme, started with the inspiration of Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji, will give the youth of the state an opportunity to achieve new heights in global education and leadership. He called upon the students to take advantage of this opportunity and increase the pride of Uttar Pradesh and the country.
This scholarship will include full tuition fee, examination and research fee, living allowance and airfare to and from the UK. The cost per student will be around £38,048 to £42,076 (about ₹45 to ₹48 lakh). Out of this, the Uttar Pradesh government will bear about £19,800 (₹23 lakh), and the remaining amount will be borne by FCDO UK.
