Reaffirming its commitment to social welfare, the Uttar Pradesh government has enhanced support for persons with disabilities and individuals affected by leprosy through transparent and timely delivery of benefits.
Under the Leprosy Pension Scheme, each eligible beneficiary receives ₹3,000 per month, benefiting 34,994 leprosy-affected persons with disabilities over the past three years, including 12,692 in the first quarter of 2025–26 alone.
Similarly, the Divyang Bharan Poshan Anudan Yojana, which provides ₹1,000 monthly to eligible persons with disabilities, has supported 30,86,102 beneficiaries over the past three years, with 11,32,240 receiving direct bank transfers in the first quarter of this year.
The adoption of an Aadhaar-based payment system has made these schemes more transparent and time-bound, effectively eliminating the risk of fund misuse.
Eligibility verification has been simplified through online applications and Jan Suvidha Kendras, with Below Poverty Line (BPL) income criteria and a valid medical certificate as the basis.
These measures are improving the quality of life for leprosy-affected persons and Divyangjans, while also helping reduce social discrimination.
Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Backward Classes Welfare and Divyang Empowerment, Narendra Kashyap, said on Monday that ensuring self-reliance and dignity for persons with disabilities and leprosy patients remains a priority for Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
The government aims to integrate these communities into the mainstream and strengthen their economic well-being through the timely and transparent delivery of welfare benefits.
