On the last day of the monsoon session of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly on Thursday, the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath-led state government hiked the salaries and allowances of the members and ministers .
After the increase, the MLAs will directly benefit with Rs 67,750 per month and the ministers will get Rs 77,750 extra. Apart from this, there will also be some other allowances.
State Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna introduced the Uttar Pradesh State Legislative Board Member and Minister Comfort-Suvidha Law (Amendment) Bill 2025, which was passed unanimously.
While placing the Bill, the parliamentary affairs minister said the salaries and allowances were increased in August 2016 about nine years ago. A committee was formed on the demand of all the parties.
The increase has been made on the basis of the recommendation of the committee. This increase will be made starting from April 1, 2025 and after every five years on the basis of the cost inflation index provided under Section 48 of the Income Tax Act 1961 (Act No. 43 of 1961).
Under this, the salary of ministers has been increased from Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000 per month, while that of MLAs and MLCs has been increased from Rs 25,000 to Rs 35,000 per month.
The parliamentary affairs minister further said that former members of the Legislative Council will be given an additional pension of Rs 2,000 per month on completion of 6 years. After the first year, Rs 2,000 will keep increasing every year. If someone’s tenure is 6 months or more, then it will be considered as a full year. At the same time, the family pension which was Rs 25,000 till now, has now been increased to Rs 30,000 per month.
Former MLAs used to get railway coupons of Rs 1 lakh per year but now it has been increased to Rs 1.5 lakh . In this, Rs 50,000 can be taken in cash for rail and air and Rs one lakh for petrol-diesel or private vehicles. If these are saved later, then these are also convertible.
The hike will put a total annual burden of Rs 105.63 crore on the government.
Now, every legislator will get Rs 35,000 as salary, Rs 75,000 as Constituency allowance , Public Service allowance of Rs 2000, secretary allowance of Rs 30,000, Daily allowance of Rs 2500 during house sitting, telephone allowance of Rs 9000 and Rs 45,000 as medical allowances.
