In compliance with the instructions issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, regarding the standardization of names of Governors’ official residences, the official residence of the Governor of Uttar Pradesh has been renamed.

In accordance with the said instructions, the official residence of the Governor of Uttar Pradesh will be known as ‘Jan Bhavan’ with immediate effect for all official and legal purposes, officials here on Tuesday said.

It is noteworthy that the Government of India issued instructions on December 1, 2025, to bring uniformity in the naming of Governors’ official residences across the country. The objective is to encourage a people-centric approach in the naming of government institutions.

According to the central government’s instructions, this change is not merely limited to a name change, but also conveys a broader message that governance is not a means of enjoying power, but a responsibility to serve the people and work for their welfare. This step is being seen as a significant initiative towards making the administrative system more people-oriented and strengthening democratic values.

However, in several states, Raj Bhavan has been changed to Lok Bhawan. But in UP, Lok Bhavan already exists where the CM has his office, so now the state Raj Bhavan has been renamed as Jan Bhavan.
