Uttar Pradesh, which has been primarily known for its agriculture and traditional industries Until a few years ago, is today not just the heart of India — it is steadily emerging as the brain of Digital India with modern IT parks in Lucknow, Kanpur, and Noida reshaping the state’s identity.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has cons istently emphasized that information technology is not a mere tool, but a transformative force. Guided by this belief, the state’s Department of IT and Electronics has implemented a series of initiatives aimed at empowering youth and positioning Uttar Pradesh as India’s leading IT hub, officials here on Sunday said.
The results are evident. In 2015, the state’s IT exports stood at ₹15,000 crore; today, they have crossed ₹75,000 crore — a fivefold increase that reflects both the determination of young professionals and the success of the UP government’s digital vision.
The Information Technology Policy 2017–2022 paved the way for major investments from global and domestic companies including Microsoft India, Paytm, Tata Consultancy Services, and Mac India, strengthening investor confidence. As a result, investments worth Rs 5,584 crore have been realized, creating over 53,000 jobs.
Under the new IT and IT-Enabled Services Policy 2022, letters of comfort have been issued for two new projects that will employ 900 youth, while three more projects worth over Rs 48 crore are in the pipeline. These developments mark another decisive step in Uttar Pradesh’s journey toward becoming the epicentre of India’s digital revolution.
The state government made history by granting the IT and ITES a sector industry status. As a result, IT companies now receive industrial-category land at industrial rates, boosting investor confidence and encouraging them to establish a strong presence in Uttar Pradesh. With support from the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), IT parks and STPI centres are already operational in Noida, Meerut, Lucknow, Kanpur, Prayagraj, and Agra.
This momentum is now expanding to Varanasi, Bareilly, and Gorakhpur, where new centres are being established. These developments will not only generate more employment but also bring smaller cities into the mainstream of the digital economy.
