HSBC India on Thursday inaugurated its new branch in Lucknow, marking a significant step in the bank’s expansion strategy and underscoring its confidence in Uttar Pradesh’s fast-evolving economic landscape.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, senior officials of HSBC India, and representatives of the Akshaya Patra Foundation.
Welcoming HSBC’s expansion, the Deputy Chief Minister highlighted Uttar Pradesh’s rapid development and increasing attraction for multinational companies, stating that the state’s economic scale and momentum underline the growing need for global banking institutions.
The new facility becomes HSBC’s 30th branch in India and follows the Reserve Bank of India’s approval earlier this year for the bank to open 20 additional branches nationwide.
Uttar Pradesh has emerged as a key growth engine for India, driven by large-scale infrastructure development, rising investment inflows, and increasing wealth creation.
Speaking at the inauguration, Sandeep Batra, Head, International Wealth and Premier Banking, HSBC India, said the expansion aligns with the bank’s commitment to supporting affluent, high-net-worth (HNW), ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW), and NRI clients. He noted that the rapid economic progress in the state has generated strong demand for global banking solutions that enable individuals and businesses to access opportunities in India and overseas.
“As India’s leading international bank, we remain focused on delivering world-class banking solutions closer to where our customers need us,” Batra said, adding that the Lucknow branch reflects HSBC’s long-term confidence in the region’s growth potential.
On the occasion, a solar-powered advanced kitchen and distribution facility was also inaugurated to support the PM POSHAN programme and state-level mid-day meal schemes. HSBC India has extended its partnership with the Akshaya Patra Foundation to strengthen school nutrition initiatives for students from low-income communities in Lucknow.
With the addition of the Lucknow branch, HSBC now operates 30 branches across 18 cities in India, backed by a legacy of over 170 years in the country. The bank has recently opened branches in Amritsar, Indore, and Vadodara, and plans further expansion in cities including Kanpur, Patna, Surat, Nagpur, Navi Mumbai, and Visakhapatnam.
