Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, along with a delegation, arrived in Elista, the capital of the Republic of Kalmykia, Russia, carrying the relics of Lord Buddha, where they will be displayed.
The delegation, led by Deputy Chief Maurya, and the sacred relics were welcomed by Batu Sergeyevich Khasikov, the Head of the Republic of Kalmykia, the Ambassador of India, V Kumar, the High Religious Leader of the Kalmyk People, Shajin Lama, and other monks and dignitaries.
It is noteworthy that the Deputy Chief Minister departed for Kalmykia from Delhi last night. Before departing for the Republic of Kalmykia, Russia, he, along with venerable monks, worshipped the sacred Piprahwa relics of Lord Buddha at Palam Airport.
On this occasion, the Deputy Chief Minister said, “This is a fortunate moment in my life, as I have had the opportunity to accompany senior monks to Russia (Kalmykia), which has the largest temple of Lord Buddha in Europe, carrying the sacred relics of Lord Buddha.”
Expressing his heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for bringing the relics back from Hong Kong, he said these were found from Piprahwa in Uttar Pradesh, which used to be the capital of Kapilvastu.
