A senior Congress leader and retired police officer, Dangal Yadav, allegedly shot and killed his younger brother over a land and loan dispute in Chandauli district late Thursday night.
The incident took place in Sirsi village, under the Sadar police station limits, around 20 kilometers from the district headquarters.
According to police, Dangal Yadav (62), who serves as the State General Secretary of the Congress Party’s OBC cell in Uttar Pradesh and is a retired Sub-Inspector, fatally shot his younger brother Kamla Yadav (53), a practicing lawyer, outside their home.
Kamla had just returned from the district court and was getting off his bike when Dangal, who had been lying in wait, fired three shots at him using his licensed pistol, two bullets struck Kamla in the head, and one in the chest.
Family members rushed Kamla to the nearby district hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival. Following the murder, Dangal fled the scene.
ASP Anant Chandrashekhar said, “The motive behind the murder was an ongoing dispute over ancestral land and a loan settlement.”
A loan of Rs 6 lakh was secured in the name of their mother, which was recently settled in Lok Adalat for Rs 60,000. The four brothers had contributed Rs 15,000 each toward the repayment, and Kamla Yadav was in posession of the “no-dues” certificate.
Earlier that same day, the two brothers entered into an argument at the district court premises over the issue. Witnesses said the situation was handled by others present as they intervened and temporarily calmed the situation, though tensions remained high.
A formal complaint (FIR) was lodged by Shakuntala Yadav, wife of the deceased, naming Dangal Yadav and his two sons, Sonu alias Sandeep and Pradyumn, as co-accused in the case. Police have confirmed that all three are currently absconding, and multiple search teams have been deployed to trace them and ensure swift action.
