Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, taking a tough stance on the illegal smuggling of codeine-based cough syrup, said that strong evidence of illicit trafficking has emerged with Samajwadi Party, following which the government has taken strict action.
He said large-scale arrests have also been made in this case. Speaking to reporters outside Assembly premises on Friday, the Chief Minister said that preliminary investigations have revealed that those arrested have links with the Samajwadi Party.
However, he clarified that the final conclusion would only be reached after the completion of the investigation.
Yogi said, “Something will be said about this only after the investigation is complete. Let the investigation be completed, and everything will become clear.” Taking a dig at the Samajwadi Party, he said that this is nothing new. The Chief Minister said that every criminal has links with the Samajwadi Party. The Samajwadi Party repeatedly makes the same mistake. The blood is on their face, but they try to clean the mirror.”
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also reiterated that the state government is working on a ‘zero tolerance’ policy against drugs and illegal trafficking, and no one found guilty will be spared. It is noteworthy that just a day earlier, Samajwadi Party (SP) National President Akhilesh Yadav had accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of protecting those involved in the illegal supply of crores of rupees worth of codeine-based cough syrup.
Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters here after a meeting of SP MLAs, Akhilesh Yadav had said that several important issues to be raised in the upcoming session of the Assembly were discussed, with the alleged codeine and cough syrup racket being a major concern.
