Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar’s son granted regular bail in POCSO case


Union Minister of state Bandi Sanjay Kumar’s son, Bandi Bhagirath was granted regular bail in a POCSO case, news agency ANI reported on Thursday.

Granting the bail to the minister’s son, the Telangana High Court asked him to furnish Rs 1 lakh with two sureties.

Bhagirath is accused of sexually harassing a minor girl and was arrested under the the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Earlier last month, he had been granted 7 days of bail by a special POCSO court in Hyderabad’s Malkajgiri to aplear for his final examinations.

Bandi Bhagirath was arrested in May this year by Telangana Police for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl.

According to the FIR filed by the victim’s mother, Bhagirath allegedly entered into a relationship with her daughter under the false promise of marriage.

He allegedly sexually harassed her and pressurised to consume alcohol between October 2025 and January 2026.

However, the ended the relationship on January 7, following which the victim allegedly attempted self-harm.

Minister claims son innocent

Reacting to his arrest, Bandi Sanjay Kumar had claimed that his son was innocent and that he himself went to the police station to surrender.

“With utmost respect for the law and judiciary, today my son Bandi Bhageerath went before the Telangana Police through our advocates for investigation. I have said this before too: whether it is my own son or a common citizen, everyone is equal before the law. My son has consistently maintained that he has committed no mistake,” Bandi Sanjay had said.

He had said that he believes in fully cooperating with the investigation and respects the judicial system.

“Even though court proceedings are underway and orders are expected next week, and despite advice from our legal team, I felt there should be no hesitation from our side in cooperating with the inquiry. I have complete faith in the justice system. Justice may be delayed, but not denied,” he added.
