UN body to hold second edition of Gender Equality Summit in New Delhi

The Global Compact Network India (GCNI), a local arm of the United Nations Global Compact, New York, will be organising the second edition of its Gender Equality Summit 2019 in New Delhi on 1 March 2019.

The summit will have participants including CEOs, CXOs, heads of corporate organizations including public sector besides representatives from academia, civil society and UN entities from across India.

The summit aims to discuss issues and seek solutions and formulate corrective actions on gender equality and the sustainable development goals (SDGs) agreed by 195 countries of the United Nations.

The theme for this year’s summit is: ‘Preparing women for the future of work’, which revolves around the UN SDGs and its allied mechanisms, and “look at solutions as to how the Governments, private sector, not-for-profits and communities at large can contribute towards creating an ecosystem around building safer workplace & empowering culture”. “The objective is to provide equal opportunity to women and for their effective participation at workplace,” GCNI said in a statement.

The Gender Equality Summit, it said, also aimed towards building a clear roadmap towards gender equality at workplaces in India, focusing on driving and bringing in change for inclusive and equal opportunities in employment and growth for the women workforce.

Over 250 leaders including leading industry professionals, policy makers, civil society organisations, academia and UN agencies are likely to participate in the event.

On the occasion, the ‘Best Innovative Practices Awards 2019’ for women at workplace will be announced.

At the summit, a research paper on Preparing Women in India for the “4th Industrial Revolution” will also be launched in association with Deloitte.

NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant will be attending the Gender Equality Summit apart from other eminent personalities.
